For the Gods of Mars by TonyGCampagna For the Gods of Mars by TonyGCampagna
I was in a mood for a cross between Egyptian mythology, Mayan lore and John Carter Warlord of Mars. There's a story there......you decide what it is. ;)

Here are the credits:

For starters, I wish to bring special credit to Sweet Vampirous Stock, :iconsweet--vampirous: As a photomanipulator, finding the perfect pose and mood for a piece can be difficult. The quality on her site is amazing.

Check this out, just on trial basis:
John carter emerged from the Arch, the war memorial of his bride Deja Thoris' race, carrying Deja Thoris in his arms. He scanned the environment for his thoat. It apparently either hid or deserted them from fear of something. He cursed in Earth's language and then muttered:
"Damn those creatures, they are as stubborn as earth mules and making rteal asses of themselves!"

My fandom of John Carter, Warlord of Mars, started many years ago. I was about 9 or 10 I think. About the same time I was introduced to Tarzan and Korak, son of Tarzan. I've been hooked ever since. Myself and a bunch of the neighbor kids had actually planned on making a rocket to go to Mars. Completely serious. Fond memories. ;) What was your first introduction and when?

My father had collected a bunch of these tales-Tarzan, John Carter, the Cthulhu Mythos. Howard's weird tales. I read through them all at teen age. His library [and indeed his collection of music] was tremendous.

How can you not get lost in those stories when you're young? They were the best adventures, though I'm not overly familiar with Howard's Weird Tales. Any relation to Weird Tales magazine?

You were a very lucky teenager to have a father who collected such works, books and music. What type did he listen to?

Re the Weird Tales, they were printed in that mag. This was mostly Conan the Barbarian.,

WE listened to Classics mostly, Beatles and Jazz, Blues etc.,

I don't think that Mag could do any wrong. I loved every issue or compilation I ever got my hands on.

A good foundation of music to be brought up on. I had an older brother who was a classic rock hound. Jazz, etc... I eventually found on my own, thankfully.

You really have a knack for pulling all these different elements together and making them look like they were always one image to start with.

I love the fact that you were able to take so many diverging concepts and get all those elements to flow so well together. The telltale sign of great work like this is the illogical desire to want to jump right through the screen and lose yourself in the saga unfolding before your eyes and in your imagination. Well done, Tony!

You are welcome, Tony. I am just as passionate an observer as I am a creator. It's kind of like the writing axiom I believe in - you cannot be a good writer without being a good reader. The same goes for visual art - you have to be a good observer and not only know when something great pleases or moves you - but why it pleases or moves you. Only then can you begin to understand the primary elements of great art and begin to incorporate them into your own style - studying and going deeper into great works like the ones you create is a journey - one that not enough people appreciate. I'm not saying you can't enjoy a great piece of art simply for what it is, but I think if you begin to delve into the depths of what makes a piece great you can begin to take your own work to another level. The privilege in this case, is much more mine than it is yours, no doubt! :)
